Meet the Host: Matt Bown

Who is Matt Bown?
Extreme Trains host Matt Bown, a native of central Maine, has always loved trains. He collects everything from model trains to train fan magazines, and for the last ten years, he's been a conductor for Pan Am Railways, formerly known as the Maine Central, which has been around since the 1860s.
For Extreme Trains, Matt traveled to nearly every state to explore the country's most fascinating train systems and historic trains, which, for Matt, was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.
Matt's Favorite Moments from Extreme Trains
Getting a rare glimpse inside the Barnum and Bailey circus train.
Riding at the head of the Acela going 150 miles an hour.
Riding in a train through the gorgeous scenery of New Mexico, and over Cajon Pass and Donner Pass in California.
Riding the cab and working with the crew on the Union Pacific 844 for an entire week, from Cheyenne to Denver.
Standing trackside, at a "roll-by," watching a steam engine (a UP 844) from just 20 feet away as it sped by at 60 miles an hour. (The labor intensive and inefficient steam engine went out of regular use in the 1950s.)
Riding and working in the close quarters of the Amtrak Empire Builder that runs from Chicago to Seattle.
