Causes of the Revolution

The conflict between the 13 British colonies on the eastern seaboard of North America and their parent country, Great Britain, is well known in history as the American Revolution.

The end of the Seven Years' War between Great Britain and France (known in America as the French and Indian War), resulted in the explusion of France both from the continent of North America and from India. In both cases, French power was replaced by that of Great Britain. As a result, Britain became the preeminent power in the western hemisphere and supreme on the high seas. Great Britain enjoyed an enormous and growing volume of maritime commerce. Due to the wars, Great Britain was also deeply in debt.
