About the Series

Save Our History is a television series that turns historic preservation into adventure. In each show, we search for our past far off the beaten path - not just in restored structures, but by flying restored aircraft, diving for lost ships, traveling to remote battle sites and meeting those who made history happen.

We search for our past far off the beaten path...

We not only discover how artifacts from pivotal moments in history are preserved and restored, but also explore through lively demos the tools and technologies used to define those periods. In past episodes, we've discovered how 19th century gold rush miners found their fortunes - and found some of our own by blowing a hole in a Montana mine with 27 sticks of dynamite; we retraced Sherman's March to see what remains of that legendary Civil War campaign; we flew in a B-25 bomber with a group of World War II veterans who showed us how they did it more than 60 years ago; we witnessed the construction of an exact replica of Godspeed, the vessel that landed at Jamestown in 1607; and we traveled to the Aleutian island of Attu,1600 miles off the Alaskan coast, with a veteran of one of the bloodiest battles of the Second World War.

Save Our History has also showcased some unusual ways of saving history. In one past episode, we re-created three cases solved by Special Agent Bob Wittman, the FBI's top undercover art crimes investigator, whose successful sting operations have recovered more than $150 million in stolen historic art and artifacts. And in The Search for George Washington, we tracked a two year forensic investigation whose mission was to pinpoint for the first time George Washington's exact likeness.

Save Our History travels the world on a mission to discover our past and to help preserve it for future generations. Join our journey with new one-hour episodes that air four times a year - on HISTORY.
