Following is a list of our most frequently asked questions. The FAQ section is frequently updated, so check back often. If the answer to your question is not listed below, you can e-mail us with your comments or questions.

Programming Information

  1. When will THE MEN WHO KILLED KENNEDY repeat?
    This program is not currently scheduled to air. Please check back regularly.

  2. When will WAR AND REMEMBRANCE or its prequel THE WINDS OF WAR repeat?
    Unfortunately, our licensing agreement to telecast WAR AND REMEMBRANCE and THE WINDS OF WAR has expired. Therefore, these two programs will not air again on THE HISTORY CHANNEL.

  3. Are there any plans to repeat TENKO, and is it available on video?
    Unfortunately, TENKO will not be airing on THE HISTORY CHANNEL again since our licensing agreement to air the program has expired. Of course there is every possibility we may re-acquire the program at a future date, but for the time being the series will not be returning to THE HISTORY CHANNEL. The 32-part series has never been released on video. While the series is based on historical events, it was written directly for television and has no source material. The series was filmed over three years and there is an unexplained break in the story-line between years two and three (episodes 20 & 21).

  4. Is The History Channel available in Canada?
    THE HISTORY CHANNEL launched in the United States on January 1, 1995 and is the latest enterprise from A&E Television Networks. At this time THE HISTORY CHANNEL is not available in Canada either via cable or satellite dish.

  5. Does The History Channel publish a program or scheduling guide?
    At this time, THE HISTORY CHANNEL does not publish a subscription program guide. For up-to-the-minute scheduling information on this site, go to The History Channel TV Listings , where you can submit your e-mail address to receive our listings on a monthly basis.

    While listings for THE HISTORY CHANNEL are not yet the norm in many newspapers, each week more papers and cable guides are adding programming information for this network. Please request your newspaper's TV listings editor to include THE HISTORY CHANNEL schedule in the daily grid.

    On-air listing services, such as Prevue Channel, also offer hourly schedules for The History Channel.

    The Federal Communications Commission has promulgated the following closed-captioning requirement effective January 1st, 1998.

    25% of nonexempt programming to be captioned by the end of the first quarter of 2000
    50% of nonexempt programming to be captioned by the end of the first quarter of 2002
    75% of nonexempt programming to be captioned by the end of the first quarter of 2004
    No less than 95% of nonexempt programming to be captioned by the end of the first quarter of 2006.

    Under separate guidelines, the FCC has mandated that 75% of library programming (which includes old movies and TV shows produced before January 1, 1998) must be captioned within 10 years.

    The History Channel is committed to providing its programming to the largest viewing audience possible, and we already exploring ways to increase the number of programming hours which are captioned.

  10. Why can't there be original episodes of my favorite History Channel shows every week?
    THE HISTORY CHANNEL began broadcasting January 1, 1995. Our goal was to provide 30% of original programming every year for the first several years. Programs such as ELLIS ISLAND, Beyond The Wild Blue, Automobiles, and Newsreels to Nightly News helped us achieve that goal. As the channel grows with new subscribers, we plan to expand our programming beyond its current range, thus producing an ever greater number of original programs.

  11. I have a general question about The History Channel or a program that you used to air that is not addressed here. Is there anywhere else I can go to get my question answered?

  12. How can I obtain History Channel show themes and music on CD or cassette?
    We're unable to provide CDs or cassettes of theme songs, background music or soundtracks of History Channel programs. Check The History Store for a list of audio, video, and merchandise selections currently offered. To place a phone order, please call A&E Home Video at 800-408-4842.

  13. I have a question that only Nigel Turner can answer about THE MEN WHO KILLED KENNEDY or how can I get in touch with the producers of VICTORY AT SEA?
    Since many of our shows are produced overseas or in conjunction with outside production sources, please submit your inquiry in writing to

    We will make every attempt to forward your letter to the producer or production company for an answer, though we can not guarantee a reply.

    Furthermore, if the show was produced many years ago, such as VICTORY AT SEA, BATTLELINE, or PERSPECTIVES, it might not be feasible to secure an answer to your inquiry, especially if the production entity no longer exists.

    You can submit program suggestions through our feedback form.While we welcome program suggestions, unfortunately THE HISTORY CHANNEL cannot produce every program idea proposed. Please do not submit unsolicited manuscripts to THE HISTORY CHANNEL. If you do, we will return them unread, and, if possible, unopened."
