Frieman wrote in his journal, "We could hardly believe it until we were told to stop firing at 11 A.M. and not to fire unless they fire. The last shot by both sides were fired exactly at 11 A.M... If the war would have kept up a few hours longer, there would not be many of us left to tell about it."
