The period from fall of 1940 through spring of 1941, when the German forces concetrated their bombing efforts on the city of London, is commonly known as The Blitz. From September 7, 1940 London was bombed for 57 consecutive nights. This image shows the destruction of many of the buildings surrounding St. Paul's Cathedral, which was largely undamaged.
