After fighting through the first Nor easter of the year, two boats--the Triunfo and Apollo--came back to sell their fish at market while the Harmony and Lily Jean took a gamble and kept fishing. Captain Dave of the Harmony finally hits a hot streak and has to time his return to market to get top dollar. Captain Gus of the Lily Jean seems to be stuck under a cloud of bad luck. If he can t make money this trip, he might lose his crew and his boat. While Gus struggles, Captain John of the Triunfo leaves port during the middle of the night--a new strategy he hopes will score him a big haul before the other boats get out to sea. And Captain Shawn of the Apollo takes a big gamble as he heads out to sea with just one generator.

Gus Sanfilippo, owner and captain of the Lily Jean, is almost at the breaking point and his crew is close to mutiny. He buys a brand new net and hopes that he can finally turn his luck around. Captain Dave is looking to strike it big on his second trip and forces his crew to do a short turnaround at home--only 36 hours--which has them frustrated and burned out. Captain Shawn s gamble to stay out at sea with one generator and a broken boom has paid off, but he faces multiple roadblocks on his way back to port. In a survey of early American abodes, our journey begins in New England with the post and beam timber frame, continues to the Southeast with the "log house", onto the "sod house" of the Great Plains, and finally ends in the Southwest with the "adobe home". The beauty of the land, authentic reconstruction of the houses, and the lifestyles of the pioneers are woven together with expert commentary, allowing the viewer to connect with early settlers and hear the stories of what makes a house a home.

Larry spends this episode going to extremes to show you how Americans go to extremes when it comes to animals. He begins in the coastal marshes of Florida where he's assisting a guy with the ultimate alligator obsession. Larry helps the young researcher take blood, urine and even vomit from gators in the name of science. Then we are off to Colorado, where a terrified Larry works with the brave, dedicated staff of Serenity Springs, a haven that takes in ferocious big felines that have nowhere else to go and gives them state-of-the-art medical and dental care. He then takes a detour to hamburger-happy Seymour, a town that claims to be the burger's birthplace. Larry takes another side trip to visit a rancher with a soft spot for cows born with deformities. Finally, he embeds himself with the men who pack the legendary beef at one of Wisconsin's most venerated meatpackers.

Larry checks in for the late shift as he experiences America after the sun goes down. First, Larry gets to be the greenhorn trying to keep up with a four-generation shrimping family as they head into shark-infested waters at night to bring back the bounty of the sea. Then, Larry gets the creepy crawlies as he helps exterminators catch critters that only come out in the dark. Finally, Larry searches for paranormal activity when he joins a team investigating agitators from the afterlife at a haunted Virginia historical site.
