Rosa Clan

American Jungle Rosa Clan

Chuck taught Tony the ways of survival in the jungle and appointed Tony leader of the Rosa clan. Tony had left the Big Island to pursue a career as a wild land firefighter in California, and his 10 years away from home resulted in divorce and an estranged relationship with his son, Isaac. The Rosa clan is small, and if Tony can’t mentor Isaac , their family knowledge of the jungle will end with Tony. The Rosas are of Irish and Portuguese heritage—the first Rosas came to the Big Island in the early 1900s to work the ranches as cowboys during the cattle boom. As the cattle industry declined, the Rosas transitioned from cowboys into full-time hunters. They began to rely exclusively on jungle hunting trails they carved when they weren’t running cattle. Now, they choose to survive completely on the jungle to feed their family. The Rosas’ chief rivals on the island are the Correas, a clan they have feuded with for almost 40 years.

According to legend, Tony and Chuck’s father was a cowboy with a passion for hunting until the day he encountered a barefoot hunter on one of the family trails. Nobody knows exactly what happened, but a gun was fired close to his head, and he returned home nearly deaf and no longer able to hunt.
