BEHAVIOR
This monster-like pig is said to be dangerous and bold. According to eyewitnesses, the Mega Hog has attempted to kill humans, careening fearlessly toward their victims. One eyewitness says he shot several rounds into a Mega Hog, but it did not even faze the hog.
WHEREABOUTS
Texas is home to the largest wild hog population in the United States. Recently, sightings of massive wild Mega Hogs have been reported throughout the Southern United States, from Texas to Alabama to Florida.
VITAL STATS
Eyewitnesses report that they have seen wild Mega Hogs that are four times as big as a typical hog, as long as 10 feet and weighing half a ton. The hogs' tracks, they say, are as big as a man's hand, and their hides are nearly impenetrable. They have 6-inch long, razor-sharp tusks that can rip through flesh.
RELATIVES
The history of giant hogs dates back millions of years. Archaeotherium, a member of the extinct Entelodont family, is a genus of giant pig that roamed the forests of North America some 20-30 million years ago. Standing as tall as six feet at the shoulder, some grew as large as modern-day rhinos. Armed with powerful jaws and teeth, Entelodonts resembled modern-day pigs.
HISTORY
Claims of massive Mega Hog sightings have increased in recent years but have been reported for decades. In 1933 a mammoth pig named Big Bill was reported to weigh an impressive 2,552 pounds. However, Big Bill turned out to be an overfed domestic hog. Experts have been skeptical of the recent Mega Hog stories and suggest that they are no more than domestic, pen-fed pigs like Big Bill, which have been raised to immense size and then managed to escape.
MOST RECENT SIGHTING
In 2004 a monster-sized hog was shot near Alapaha, Georgia. It was estimated to be over 12 feet long and weighed 1,000 pounds. In early 2007 just outside Anniston, Alabama, a Mega Hog was shot and killed by an 11-year-old boy. Its weight was an unconfirmed 1,051 pounds.
