Mounted in Alaska
Meet the Taxidermists
Sam
At 51, Sam has had the taxidermy trade in his blood for a long time. His grandfather and his father were both taxidermists, and now Sam and his brother are carrying on the family tradition.
Like Russell, Sam grew up in Mississippi, and he was 10 years old when he mounted his first piece. Sam's family maintained a veritable zoo in their backyard – from rescued circus tigers to pet monkeys, his passion for animals has been life-long. Sam and his family are hurricane Katrina survivors – Sam watched his house blow away around him.
Sam is the newest member of Russ's crew, but also the most experienced. An accomplished competition taxidermist, Sam's proudest moment was receiving the Award of Excellence at the National Taxidermist Association's nation-wide competition. Sam is brand new to Alaska and has taken up gold mining in his spare time. If he doesn't strike it rich, Sam will be crafting taxidermy until the end of his days.
