You Dont Know Dixie

About the Show

Most people think they know everything they need to know about the South. But did you know that America itself began in Dixie? From the first permanent English settlement in Jamestown, Virginia; to our most treasured founding documents, the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, both written by Southerners; to our first presidents, the South has shaped  American culture and history.

Built on a pioneering spirit of self-reliance, ingenuity and grit, the South developed a distinct culture and  flavor that sets it apart.  But just how did the South get its twang? Is the Southern accent really the nearest surviving relative of the American colonial accent? And what, exactly, are grits? We'll journey into the South and hear from some of today's best known Southerners including: Trace Adkins, Al Bell, Bobby Bowden, James Carville, Jeff  Foxworthy, Ty Pennington, Ricky Skaggs, Herschel Walker, and Michael Waltrip. Along the way we will uncover hidden and surprising truths about how the South shaped America. This is a history of the South from inside the South, full of fun "who knew?" facts and that unique Southern flavor.
