All Kinds of Colors for the Army and Navy" read an advertisement that appeared in a Philadelphia newspaper on this date. The ad was placed by Rebecca Young, who was one of the most popular flag makers of the Revolutionary War.

Her daughter, Mary Pickersgill, would inherit her talent-and in 1813, she would sew the "Star-Spangled Banner" that Francis Scott Key wrote about.
