After the decision in Bush v. Gore, Vice President Al Gore conceded the presidential election on December 13, 2000, making George W. Bush the President. It was also on this same day, in the year 1642, that the country of New Zealand was discovered, and in 1978, the Susan B. Anthony silver dollar was entered into the currency. This was the first time a coin had honored a woman in United State's history. Lastly, it was on December 13, 1918, that a President first traveled to Europe during his term in office.
