On December 27, 1835, Charles Darwin set sail on the Beagle; a journey that would forever change science. It was from this journey that he developed his idea of evolution. Not only does December 27th mark the day that forever changed science, it also is the day when Spain declared itself a democracy in 1978. After suffering forty years under the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, Spain decided it had enough and chose to have a democratic government. Some forty six years earlier, in 1932, Radio City was first opened by the son of the famous John Rockefeller. December 27 was also the day that the United States announced it would be holding Taliban and Al Qaeda members at Guantanamo Bay prison in 2002. Watch the This Day in History video to learn more.
