On this Day, March 16th, many historical events occurred. Russ Mitchell recaps some of those events in this video clip from This Day in History. The US Military Academy West Point was established, and many of the Civil War Generals studied there. Those generals included Robert E Lee, William Sherman, and Stonewall Jackson. Nathaniel Hawthorne's book The Scarlet Letter was published, and the launch of the first liquid fueled rocket was successful for the first time. Also, Norman Thagard was the first American astronaut to visit the Russian Space Station.
