(3m 34s) tv-pg

In this clip from Engineering Disasters learn about the Mianus River Bridge collapse. This bridge, located on Interstate 95 from Connecticut to New York, was 30 years old at the time of the collapse. Three people were killed when the pin and hanger system on the north end of the bridge failed. With the combination of age, heavy use, and harsh weather the bridge was not up to its job but the real cause of the disaster was because of bad bridge maintenance. This accident was a disaster but it taught the world how important it is to properly maintain every bridge.
