About
Modern technology allows us to build incredible structures like giant tankers, mammoth skyscrapers and colossal bridges. But, with enormous size comes enormous risk, and when big things go wrong, they go really wrong. The HISTORY Channel’s new series examines the catastrophic result of some of the world’s worst engineering disasters caught on tape. Each episode breaks down shocking footage from collapses and collisions to reveal the shocking answers to the question, what happened? Woven together through innovative graphics, eyewitness accounts and expert knowledge, the series unravels the mystery behind these destructive moments and their lasting worldwide impact. When Big Things Go Wrong will be woven together by the knowledge and enthusiasm of our team of on-screen experts. We will have a small group who will appear in every episode: three or four engineers who have the breadth of experience and story-telling skills to give us the context and the impact of each incident. They will be our familiar faces who give the series continuity and personality. We will supplement this core team with a secondary chorus of men and women who have a deep and specialist knowledge of one area: be it in ship design, bridge construction, salvage operations, weather impacts or demolition work. They will be able to add in the forensic detail required to unpack each story. These faces will recur across the series whenever their area of expertise is needed. Together, and along with witness voices, they will bring to life the engineering, science, and decision-making involved in each disaster. They will unpack them minute by minute, as well as giving us the causes, aftermath, impact and historic context Each episode will draw together a slightly different combination of experts to ensure a 360 degree picture of why these big things have gone wrong. Depending on the final stories we feature we imagine we would need 3 or 4 key experts and around 8 additional faces.
