For the past fifteen years, Dave and Kielyn Marrone have carved out a fully off-grid existence on their remote 40-acre homestead in Northern Ontario — a place where every structure has been built from lumber, they milled themselves. Together they run a vast trapline and a winter expedition outfitting company, designing and fabricating their own traditional gear along the way, with Kielyn bringing deep expertise in small-game hunting, foraging, and frontier craftsmanship, and Dave serving as the operation’s relentless bush engineer — always solving the next mechanical or construction challenge. This season, with winter expeditions wrapped, the two turn their focus back to the homestead itself, tackling everything from trapping beaver to save the only road connecting them to the outside world to rebuilding an apiary destroyed by a bear — every challenge met with the skills they’ve spent fifteen years building side by side.
