(Original Caption) St. Paul, Minnesota: President Hoover will deliver his first radio speech since Presidential Campaign Saturday night as a part of the program celebrating the dedication and formal opening of the new Great Northern tunnel through the Cascade Mountains. Announcement of Mr. Hoover's acceptance of an invitation to participate in the ceremony was made by Ralph Budd, president of the Great Northern, who will formally dedicate the tunnel, the longest in the western hemisphere. Our photo shows work in progress on the tunnel which runs between Berne and Scenic, Washington, eight miles long, and costing $10,000,000. (Photo by George Rinhart/Corbis via Getty Images)
