Abraham Lincoln is shot by John Wilkes Booth at the Ford theater, Webster dictionary is published, the first J.C. Penny store is opened, and the Titanic hits an iceberg in This Day in History video. The date is April 14th. Noah Webster, a lexicographer, is responsible for compiling the first dictionary.
