Hometown: Ontario, CA
Profession: Winter Wilderness Expedition Operator
Kielyn is the co-owner of Lure of the North with her husband and best friend, Dave. Together, they live off the grid at a remote wilderness property in northern Ontario, Canada that is only accessible by boat or snowmobile. Their nearest neighbor is ten kilometers of rough, grown in ATV trail away, and that is how she likes it. Her living relies on her ability to take people into the most remote parts of northern Ontario and Quebec, snowshoeing through the boreal forest for weeks on end while using traditional techniques and gear. She has the tools and capability to “make friends with winter” and enjoy herself as much on the trail as she does home curled up by the woodstove with her animals.
Kielyn loves to laugh and dance and tries to see the positive in every circumstance. She does not shy away from hard work and understands that taking action—not just thinking about it—is what gets you where you want to be.
This is a great opportunity to remind herself of what she knows, what she doesn’t know and how strong she can be on her own when she digs deep. She is stubborn and competitive and has dedicated her life to being the best version of herself so that she can inspire others to do the same.
Here are the ten items Kielyn selected to bring on her survival journey to the Arctic:
1. Snare wire
2. Fishing line and hooks
3. Gill net
6. Sleeping bag
8. Ferro rod
9. Bow and arrows
